ASO Low Brass Sectional

The Atlanta Symphony low brass section came to GSU late thursday night after their concert. It was to rehearse an upcoming masterclass for a trombone workshop. The current lineup is Colin Williams, Bill Thomas, and George Curran (bass). Eric Bubacz was playing tuba with them although he doesn't normally play with the ASO. The rehearsal was phenominal, they were kind enough to let a few students sit in a listen. Besides hearing pretty flawless runthroughs of all the major excerpts, it was invaluable seeing how a professional section interacts while playing. Colin showed us tips on how he cued, while Bill told us the role of a second player. Having to match the first player exactly and staying relatively motionless so not to distract George, did not seem like a fun place to be. It was one of those moments of parapetia. People underestimate how great a place going to school in the middle of Atlanta can be. There is just too much talent in this city musically to not be affected somehow.
